Why is my dog twitching

Why is my dog twitching2007-11-25 2:56:27

My dog has been twitching for a few months. We are not sure if it is a seizure. We have gotten bloodwork taken to rule out rocky mountain spotted fever as well as other diseases. Right before he started to twitch, he went to the vet for a possible collapsing trachea or redundant membrane. The vet does not have a clue what is going on. Her next suggestion is to medicate him. The twitching occurs several times a week and lasts for 5-7 seconds at a time. It usually seems to occur in his face accompanied by uncontrolled blinking. Occasionally he will fall down if it occurs when he is walking. He never seems disoriented by the episode. I am just not sure where to go from here and would very much appreciate any advice.

We had a dog once that had seizures. Have they checked for that? Our vet gave us medicine to give him everyday and that seemed to take care of it. I hope everything is OK with him. Good luck!

Sounds like epilepsy.
It sounds like seizures...not violent, but they can become violent in time.

There is no test known to diagnose epilepsy in dogs, they just rule everything else out and then treat.

I had a dog that started when he was about 6 months old, light twitching, often I would find him laying down out of breath. After the first few times, he went into a continuous seizure. He lived on phenobarbitol for 6 years. He still have seizures off an on, but they were more mild.
