Scavenging for food can (and usually does) also increase once you own a senior dog. They start to get the mantality of they aren't sure when they ate last or when they will eat again. Kind of like a senior human... they forget a little. It doesn't mean your dog is more hungry.
Hope this helps!
What is Faeces? Dont you mean Faces or Fences?
Maybe you should put a bit more food out, and if you catch her again give her a small spanking say no, and send her to her bed.
Hopefully i helped,
Daphne
Coprophagy is common in dogs, there is a suppliment called For-Bid you can give her to break the habit.
Also please have her checked, sometimes older dogs start eating strange things because they feel a deficiency in their diet. At her age she should be having yearly exams and blood panels done to catch diseases early.
She may be lacking vital vitamins... or maybe can't see well enough to realise what she is eating... take her to the vet... my dog is twelve... if she did this I would assume either of these things and immediately take her to the vet.
can't answer the why but it is fairly common. your vet office will have an OTC product to stop it. We use Forbid powder
seeing as SCAT is the stuff that makes feces stink, and scat is damaged or old red blood cells and your dog is also scavenging, may i suggest that she might be looking for a bit more meat or iron in her diet. just a thought.
I raise dogs, sounds like she may have worms.
