Why is my house broken 8 month old puppy is still peeing in his kennel2007-11-25 2:56:28

I have an 8 month old male Afenpinscher he is almost house trained; except for when I take him out of his kennel or when he gets excited, he seems to like to pee in the house at that time. How can I get this to stop?

A couple things here...first of all he is NOT too young to already be potty trained.

IF he pee's in the kennel, most likely the kennel is too big. If he can do his biz in one part of it and sit in another, it's too big. He should only have enough room to comfortably stand, sit, and lay. You can buy dividers for a kennel or make one out of cardboard.

You say he is peeing when you take him out. He is overly excited, and he is also most likely submissive peeing. So first rule of thumb is...keep him very very calm. No high squeaky baby talk, in fact no talk period would be better or petting him until you get him outside to do his biz.

Do you walk him? While he's still growing you don't want to over do it, but he does need at least a 30 min. walk every day. This will help relieve pent up anxiety, especially if he's had to wait for you to get home from work.

just keep up with the house training. pups useually get excited and pee but that useually ends as they calm down

Sorry to be the one to have to say this... you can't... 8 months is still young. Puppies have small bladders that cannot hold more than a cup of liquid at a time... your puppy pees when he gets excited because he jumps all over the place and most likely has a full bladder by the time you come home.
