Why is my puppy being aggressive

Why is my puppy being aggressive2007-11-25 2:56:30

I firmly but gently say "NO NO!" to puppies that bite, jump up on me or scratch. To the dismay of the neighbors who are watching, I also explain in simple terms why that isn't nice..."People don't like that!" My neighbors laugh at me when I say such things but they drop their jaws when the puppies actually respond appropriately.

A neighbors dog used to jump on people continually but I talked to him for about an hour and he hardly ever jumps on anyone anymore. Everyone is astonished...Its a compliment when I get called the "Dog Whisperer" but I think anyone can do it. Talk to your dog as you brush him and feed him from your hand. Say things, "Don't be so angry...everyone likes you just fine and no one's going to hurt you." "Now what did you do that for? That hurt. I don't like it!" Speak soothingly and gently and don't worry if someone teases you for it. If it works, I don't care what people think.

Treat your animals more like young children than dogs and I think they will behave wonderfully for you. The only time it doesn't work is when a dog is sick. Take him to the vet and have him checked out. Obviously a dog with distemper or rabies is out of their mind and nothing will help. If a dog is healthy, a good talking to will stop most obnoxious behavior.

Silly isn't it? But somehow it works. Laugh...I'm glad I could make your day.

Lhasa Apsos can be quite nippy dogs and most puppioes go through a phase of "trying their luck" against their owners, but you must break her of this habit. Ask your vet and obedience trainer for advice.
