Why is my puppy mad for pants
I used have a Springer Spaniel that was terrible for this - he would go and riffle through the laundry basket to find underwear. You could guarantee if we had visitors he would greet them with a pair of my old knickers in his his mouth - very embarrassing!
It is unfortunately because they smell appealing (even if they appear clean due to their keen sense of smell) and a puppy will find it comforting to have something that smells of you around him (or just enjoy smelling/chewing something that to him smells lovely!).
Most times they grow out of it but try keeping a lid on the laundry basket to try and break the habit - good luck!
They smell strongly and puppies like most gross things.
Well i know what you mean. Just like the answer above i used to have the same problem.
The laundry basket was open and what would come out everything but only one thing was taken - underpants! She used to hide behind the sofa with them until i chased her out and took them off her! I believe there are many buried in my garden and i know many have been ripped apart! Dogs are funny little creatures!
I think it is because they smell of you and it reminds them of you. It is a very strong scent - you can guess why!- and it is like the smell of them marking their territory! They also think of it as a game, after the first chase it is lots of fun so it continues.
I would suggest not chasing the dog or making fun out of it if you want her to stop. Keep them in a lidded laundry basket and don't leave any pants out! Or chuck the man out, unless it is you? well anyway good luck with your little bundle! - my dog was put to sleep about a month ago, she didn't steal the pants but another dog did!
