Why is my puppy so "mellow"

Why is my puppy so "mellow"2007-11-25 2:56:30

I have a 9-10 week old Black Lab mix who was deemed healthy by our vet. She is the sweetest, most peaceful, easy going puppy I have ever seen. She is only "active" when there is another dog that wants to play with her. She doesn't come when called, or respond to a happy high pitched voice.

She eats well, sleeps well, is "kitchen broken" and seems fine in most respects - but she always stops to lie down on very short walks. I can hold her in one position in my arms for hours and she won't budge.

Am I just very lucky that this sweet girl is so mellow, or do you think she may have a problem of some sort? (I did adopt her with a cold, and she has been on meds (Clavamox) for the last few weeks, but my vet didn't seem alarmed by it at all.)

Answers:

It may just be temperment, enjoy it! My lab was (and still is) amazingly hyper. If you are still worried about it after she is off the medication, then I would just ask your vet again at her next check-up.

Once she is off the Clavamox and feeling 100% I bet she'll be more lively. Right now she's just a growing baby and needs her rest.
WHERE DID YOU GET THE DOG FROM? SOUNDS LIKE SYMPTOMS OF A DOG THAT WAS PREVIOUSLY ABUSED.. OR IS FROM A SHELTER. SHE IS SIMPLY AN OVERSIZED LAP DOG, AND WILL BE ATTACHED TO YOU FOREVER. THEY SEE YOU AS SAFETY.. AND SHE IS SIMPLY INSECURE.
Count your blessings. She will problably pick up her activity when she is off the medicine. Enjoy the mellow temperment.
She could just be really mellow. My GSD puppy was like that. When we called his foster mom the night before we went to pick him up she said, "I hope you like hyper dogs." He's been anything but hyper...he fell asleep in the middle of Petsmart the first week we had him! The Clavamox may also be making her feel a little off.
