Why is my yorkshire terrier so hyped2007-11-25 2:56:49

my yorkie jumps on everyone who comes into my apartment and she urinates because she is so excited.

I have a yorkie that loves for people to come over, he jumps up and they love him. He has never urinated but my sister had a bison frise that did that. They grow out of it. It's not fun to be the person who gets urinated on, though! When someone comes to your door, put her in her kennel before you answer the door, and after your guest has been visiting for awhile maybe she has calmed down from the initial excitement of a friend visiting.

My mates papillon does this. We are told to ignore her if we go to her house until she settles. If she jumps up we have to turn away. Have a towel nearby - it took her a few weeks to get her dog to not pee every time somebody came around!

I hope you are walking ur yorkie sufficiently. A lot of ppl get small dogs thinking they dont need as much exercise. You need to walk your dog so that she is completely tired out. Furthermore, jumping doesn't stop unless you train her that you are the leader and not her, stop her from her jumping each time, be assertive,

I too, have a Yorkie, so I understand about them being hyper. This is a breed of dog that has tremendous amounts of energy and needs to be 'played down' until they are relatively calm. If they lack attention, then they will do what it takes to make their own fun. As far as your dog jumping on people and then urinating, this is from excitement, as Yorkies are also very social animals. This just simply calls for training. There is nothing that you can do, other than train him, to make him stop jumping on people as they enter your home. Perhaps when you have guests, you can put the dog in a kennel or back bedroom until your house in empty again.
