Why my dog easily get smelly2007-11-25 2:56:50

I got to bath for my Jrt 2 or 3 times every week.. He been eating same food all the while.. i can't understand why he get smelly easily.. I use doggie perfume on him.. but still cant cover the smell from his body.. :(

i too had my puppy the same as yours no real answer how to get rid of the smell i had been tring for the past 3 months no sucess. i had bath her 2-3 times a week and almost every way you have tried i am sure i did too. a salesgirl from the pet shop told me not to bath her 2-3 times a week or it will be bad for my puppy fur but maybe you can wipe her with a cloth and with a little dettol and water. i have also ask a vet what i can do but the vet have no answer. powder did not work for mine maybe i should try using a shampoo with baking power as the other person suggest.my puppy was a stray dog.

TRy switchin shampoos. Something with baking soda. I found this at a petstore.

Is it an outside dog? Is it a big dog? You are not very informative. It is also kind of hot right now. Maybe try some unscented talcum powder and rub it into the fur down to the skin to absorb the extra oils and sweat.

if you let your dog stay out side all day, maybe hes doing something like digging a whole or swimming in a pond...

It could be his teeth, ears or anal glands so have a vet check him out.

Your dog gets smelly because it IS a dog. All dogs get smelly. But giving it a bath 2-3 times a week is way to much. You should only bath your dog about once a month. You wash important oils out of the fur by bathing to much and that opens up chances for it to get skin disease's.

usually if a dog has a odor about them that you just cant seem to get rid of, it could be he has an ear infections or he has a skin problem, neither of them are all that noticalbe, unless its severe. Look down in the ears, if you don't see anything, you might want to take him to a vet and let them take a look, they are trained to notice things that most people don't notice.
