Tail wagging can be a sign of stress, or discomfort, depends on whether it is wagging more to the left or right. A recent study has shown that that a dominant right wag is showing recognition and acceptance, joy. While Dominant Left wag is uncertainness, wary...so not sure of what you intend, as in meeting a person he feels uncertain about.. So tail wagging while reacting to scolding would be a sign of uncertainty...may not know what you are scolding about. It would be interesting to see if the wag is more left

Dogs don't think like people. They don't actively think about tearing up the newspaper or getting into the garbage to get your attention. Tearing up newspaper would be just something to do, period. No thoughts about it at all. Getting into the garbage...primary reinforcer...food!!! If you catch it in the act, you'd most likely see tail go between the legs. If you come home from work, find a mess and scold. Your dog has no idea why you scold...only that your tone is not happy to be back with your pack buddy. So greeting would be tentative. Your doggie doesn't know what to expect from you. Usually you're happy to come back...this time you aren't happy.

Get it? Hope so, just trying to explain more about tail wag.
