We need to be proactive, get involved with our local politics and help the people making laws governing the care of dogs be sensible and humane. We need to stiffen penalties (and enforce them) for cruelty to dogs.

We need to outlaw tethering of dogs. That is one of the biggest factors in dogs that attack, they've been chained up somewhere night and day.

The biggest factor in all dog attacks is: UNNEUTERED MALES. The largest percentage of dog attacks are done by unneutered male dogs, of any breed.

If everyone who got a puppy, took that puppy to a well run Puppy Kindergarten class, lots of dog attacks could be prevented.

I agree with you on some level. Just last night, I had to take my 5 year old daughter to the emergency room because our dog bit her on the lip. She only had to get one stitch and she doesn't blame the dog for what happened. (She accidentally stepped on the puppy and the puppy jumped up and bit her.) The puppy even felt bad about it and wanted to lay down with her, which she never does. My family asked if I was going to get rid of the puppy. I asked, "Why? The dog didn't do anything on purpose. She was reacting to being stepped on." It was an accident and we don't punish the dog.
