any way there is nothing wrong with letting the dogs on the couch. They can still know you are boss, and get nice things. You parents didnt make you sleep outside, drink dirty water, eat off the floor, ect.. just to teach you that they were in authority over you. In the same since you dont need to deprive the pets to teach them this same rule..

i let my dogs on the the furniture .. it makes me feel closer to them... think of it this way why crawl on the floor to pet you dog when you can have them come culdde with you...

show your dog some love ... let me geuss he doesnt get any treats eather because that would make him spoiled like the other good for nothing dogs... right ... grow up and relise your dog is part of your family.. and if you dont like treating your dog with respect then give your dog to your dad.

You can cuddle with him if he goes on the coach but not when your eatting.If you want you could wash its feet because the germs off the floor.

Yikes, sounds like you have issues with your dad.. Perhaps you should be confronting him rather than asking a general question like this.. I don't know you or your dad.. I can't tell you why your dad does the things he does.. Time for therapy..

Having the dog on the couch doesn't necessarily make him equal to you.. Having him on the couch ON you, or where he is allowed to force himself on you, holding you with his head, having his paw on you etc. Is somewhat dominant, standing over you on the couch is dominant.. Sitting with your dog beside you on the couch is sharing your space.
