As for your canine being dirty, bath it. Once a month is acceptable for short haired breeds such as the boxer, boston terrier, or staffordshire and it's off-bred stock. A quick toweling with a wash cloth on the feet and face between baths is all that is really needed.

Since you are aware of training procedure then your animal must no doubt be properly trained to be touched, stand and sit on command, and interact socially with people and with other dogs. If this is the case then a trip to a professional groomer is in order.

If not, then I strongly advise you get yourself to obedience classes as soon as possible. Stay, Sit, Stand and Come are the very basic necessities of properly training any dog.

A trip to a professional dog groomer is necessary for any dogs with hair longer than an inch. Grooming removes excess hair from the genitals and anal area of the dog and removes coat that would otherwise attract dirt and leaves and unwanted pests. If the animal is not to be allowed on the furniture then an acceptable alternative location must be established. Often this is done in the early months of kennel training for house-breaking and either is the kennel or the location where it was.
