Why wont my dog develop milk after pregnacy2007-11-25 2:56:53

she has 2 six day old puppies and she has just stoped developing milk out of nowhere. why?

It happens sometimes. Make sure she is getting as much food as she likes, preferably puppy food, and LOTS of water. If she still doesn't get any milk back, you'll need to hand feed the pups with a puppy milk replacer every two hours until they are three weeks old. Then it can be every three hours. At four weeks real food can be introduced but allow them to continue to have milk until seven to eight weeks of age. The nutrients in the milk will help them grow strong. I recommend taking the ***** to the vet for a check up in case something is wrong. Good luck with your puppies.

that is unusual but some mothers just stop feeding their new borns but if she's not producing milk you may want to talk to you vet...and start bottle feeding those puppies so they don't die...since their eyes aren't open they won't know the difference and its really easy just make sure you get a good formula (HARTZ, i think it is has a great formula) pay attention to direction and its like feeding a baby...literally, make sure the milk is warm

she needs to eat more or the food you've been giving her is not good see if you can find specail food for her and bottle feed her puppies for now

you can get some milk at the pet store for the pups but go see you're vet and make sure mama is OK. This happens but you can never be too safe
