Why wont my roommates dog wont stop barking2007-11-25 2:56:54

My roommate isn't home and her dog is in the backyard and has been barking and whining for hours. I am not too comfortable with dogs but I went out there and tried to give it water and keep it company. It didn't seem to be thirsty. It started jumping and got really aggressive and put its jaws around my arm a few times but didn't bite down. So I just threw the bowl with the water to distract it and went back inside. How should I handle this?

Sounds like the dog is bored and needs human interaction. If your roomy isn't home enough to pay attention to the dog consider finding it another home. Also, if you have neighbors and the dog is barking non stop, it's really annoying and if they call the police you could be fined, yes Fined! Consider the people living around you, would YOU want to hear the dog barking all day? I know if I were your neighbor, I would be calling the police, sorry!

The dog is energetic, and has little or no way to relieve that energy (hence, the nipping at your arm). Grab a tennis ball or some other toy, and play fetch (if the dog knows it). Let the dog indoors (if allowed), as that might help calm the dog down, as well.

bring the dog inside, he's tired or wants company. he bit you because he probually thought you were leaving. he was jumping because he wants to play.

It's getting aggro from boredom and not getting enough exersize - when your roommate comes back they need to fix that - it's not going to be getting better.
