Why would someone buy a dog2007-11-25 2:56:56

I want to know what all thinks? me my reason was I wanted pure breed. there is a big difference if you can afford it and they are very expensive. some can afford it and some can't and all breeders don't sell them cheap. its not cheap they have to have shots and all the papers and everything to pay for it so really the price isn't much they make i know all this but sad someone there doens't seem to know this. yes ASPCA is great to. I have gotten alot of animals in my time as younger person. they are good also. it just depends on what you want a hand raised pet that you knw how its been treated during its small lifetime and can mould the lovely pet

Answers:

We have 2 lovely dogs who we rescued from death row, both who are so grateful to have good homes, but took a lot of hard work and patience to get them to be clean and happy in a house rather than a kennel.

We also have a little Jack Russell who I paid big money for, because he was exactly what I wanted. It was worth the money for me, he came from a private home, who just wanted their girl to have one litter. He came to me at 8 weeks, with his first shots done, and already house broke. She had made a great job of raising him.

to feel loved and needed? to give an animal a good home? to NOT support puppy mills by buying from credible breeders? idk. i just like puppies. if you raise them right they'll turn out fine.
If I am going to pay BIG MONEY for a purebred dog, then it better have the paperwork and champion parents to back up that price. Reputable breeder spend tons of money on their breeding programs, including showing the dogs, getting proper genetic and health testing, going far and wide to breed with the perfect matched dog/b*tch, the costs of vet care, possible costs of unexpected c-sections... the list goes on. If I'm going to pay big bucks for a purebred, it sure is NOT going to be from some irresponsible back yard breeder looking to make a fast buck and selling pups that are potentially going to have a series of medical issues later down the line.
there is nothing wrong with backyard breeders as long as you are buying the dog as a pet. most people buy their pure breed pets from backyard breeders
