Why would you suggest (feed separately)
Dogs are "pack" animals and in a pack the feeding is a ritual. When a person has a problem w/ 2 or more dogs at feeding time the answer is NOT to "feed them seperate." Suggesting to a person to feed dogs seperately will not solve the problem, it very well could escalate the problem. Imagine if you will feeding 2 or more children at seperate times, what message are you sending the children? The answer is never straight forward and is probably deeper then feeding time. I had a problem w/ my two dogs when I brought the 2nd dog in to my home. What I did was simple I fed them both at the same time, the elder dog was fine but the younger dog wanted to eat out of both bowls all I did was block the younger dog from the elder dog. The younger dog tried everything to get by me but I just stood my ground finally he gave up. That lasted one day now they eat in peace.
Answers:Well I feed my dogs in their crates (all in a row) - I guess that could be considered feeding them separately in a sense. It's pretty much at the same time. They know *who* gets fed first - Samson - he's been with me longest - then Quincey - THEN Beethoven. Actually the older two I leave the doors open but Beta gets his shut as soon as the bowl goes in as he will wolf his kibble (whuff whuff whuff - GONE) and then go see if the others are finished yet.
They see me getting their bowls out, they dive for the crates. These are dachshunds; very much a pack animal.
