I have had pets for nearly 30 years and the only time I needed a vet the Dog had to be put down.

i have lived in GA and OH. i thank the good Lord i found vets that had compassion. i have always taken in strays and the vets have always helped by not over charging me. i now live in AZ where the vets over charge and have NO COMPASSION OR HEART. $$$$$ IS THE ONLY THING THE VETS LOVE. THANK GOODNESS FOR THE HUMANE SOCIETY HERE IN AZ. there still are times i have to take my animals to the rip off vets in AZ. we have a total of 7 wonderful loving animals. 5 of them were strays. we had health ins on the 2 kids, while they lived at home.

Those type of people are irresponsible people, they want a pet but don't want to take care of everything else (no vet, no walking, no grooming, no bathing). My boyfriend wants a dog and I told that until he had enough money for the vet and spend at least 2 weeks with my 2 dogs and do everything to them (food,baths,walks,grooming) I wasn't going to let him have one.

I think it has to do with the inability of some people to view other living creatures as having legitimate lives independent of their direct usefulness to humans. And - I think that this is a consequence of the rarely-spoken but commonly-held belief that everything that exists, exists for humans.

Some people just don't get it. They don't think of other animals as having some degree of consciousness, complete with a level of intelligence and feelings. Sure - my Lab doesn't compose symphonies or write computer programs, but he can feel pleasure and pain, he can find toys by name, and he goes nuts when I take the exit to the dog park.
