Will dogs still have sex after they have been fixed2007-11-25 2:56:34

I am aware they wont get pregnant but my boss thinks they will still have sex anyway, I disagree. I think that they will hump but not literally have sex. Can you clear this up for me? Thanks

My male has gotten attached. Never throw cold water or yell at them for it but they can penetrate. I have also had males do the humping thing and um to say nicely squirt on another dogs back..

Depending on the age at time of being fixed they may still go through the motions. Males after the age of 6-12 months have already gotten that hormone boost and that's why they do it. Females on the other hand "hump" as a form of dominance and will most likely do that regardless of being spayed or not.

I'm with you on this one! I even had a dog that had sired a little of puppies (hence, not a virgin dog) that I got fixed, while he would occasionally hump the female afterwards, there was never any actual penetration. I've never seen a fixed dog actually engage in intercourse.

Maybe for a short time after a female is spayed but it would be a fluke. When a female is spayed it removes the source of hormones needed for her birth canal to swell and open enough for breeding like it would for four days every six months during heat in a non spayed female. A neutered male also loses his source of hormones and rarely is capable of penetration more than a couple months after neutering. The bottom line is: never say never about dogs but sex after spay and neuter is extremely rare after a couple months.

No, If the male is neutered he cannot penetrate. A female who has been spayed won't willingly let a male try. Yes they hump but as we all know that isn't sex.

No they will not have sex after they are fixed. They wont go into heat so the males wont find them "attractive" to come for lets say a visit or a booty call. They give out the signs of mating. Some dogs do hump with or without being fixed but others do not even hump.

yes. I have a female, spayed bichon, and my brother has a jack russell terrier. He chased her around so much that she finally gave up and let him do it. It was cute, but I didn't know they could do it after having them fixed.
