Will my dogs temperment change after he is altered
I know that a cat's temperment changes sometimes after it is altered. I never had a dog altered before. He just had his surgery yesterday and I wanted to know if anyone has had a change in their dog's temperment after being altered?
Answers:My male dog was not as agressive after being fixed. He calmed down a little which was a relief for me because he used to be so high strung.
I've never heard of a dog's temperment getting worse after being fixed, only better.
Good luck and I'm sure you're dog will be great too!
A little, but for the better.
He may be more lethargic than before. Most likely mello out a bit, you will notice less leg humping and spraying too :-)
It really depends on the age of the dog. If your pup hasn't reached sexual maturity yet...chances are, you won't recognize much of a change.
sometimes yes, sometimes no. but never for the worse.
usually they become a little more attentive and easier to train... and they are less likely to run away (because they are usually looking for females).
it is likely that you wont notice any difference.
.
If he was aggressive or didn't like you touching areas that have dominance qualities he will be less aggressive and less dominate. If he is a friendly even tempered dog you will not notice much change. A lot depends on his age too. Most dogs are neutered around 10 mos to 12 mos which is when they lose some teenage energy and become adults so they would have slowed down and required less food naturally. Most of my large breed dogs were neutered around 6 yrs old after they were done with dog shows and they became slightly more mellow but my current Dobe was neutered at 10 mos and now at 12 mos hasn't changed at all. My MinPins have been done as adults and showed less marking but their basic temperament never changed. The only temperament changes have been for the better, being mellow, and less dominate. My friends Dobe was a runner and after being neutered at 6 yrs old didn't run away again. He was only loose while we were running dogs together not left loose in his yard. He started listening to his Mom's commands a week after being cut.
Sometimes yes and sometimes no. Some think that altering the dog will make him less aggressive, Not the case at all. Some dogs may mellow out, but some dogs don't mellow out at all...
It will NOT change his temperament. It will not make him less aggressive. Aggressive issues are behavioral, not physical. Neutering a young male, will help prevent the behavioral issues that may arise as a pup reaches adulthood, especially if there are two males in the same household.
