To get that dream dog you want, you definitely will have to train him. The only thing preventing him fomr being a very well-behaved dog is your own knowledge and expertise. Read up about dog training and get yourself acquainted to some experienced dog owners who know their stuff. Training, if done well is a wonderful experience for both dog and owner and fosters a very good relationship between them. Good luck.

you have to teach ALL dogs to be like that..maybe you should have researched the breed before you just went out bought whatever you found to be cute.Jack Russells are VERY high energy dogs & are like that all thru their lives not just as puppies, they require A LOT of exercise & attention & need to be mentally stimulated as well as they are also very intelligent

NO dog "naturally" walks along side it's owner undistracted without being trained. And most terriers are easily distracted. They are a willful independent group, not like lassie's or rin tin tins. JRs are a very active, spunky, alert, intelligent breed. Because of their intelligence, they can become easily bored if not given enough to do.

You didn't mention how old your dog is..usually most dogs START to settle down a bit around 4 yrs old. However some breeds or individual dogs can stay active well into 9-10 yrs old.

Jack Russell's are VERY energetic dogs by nature and will never lose that energy. They need to be taken out for regular and long walks. You don't need to walk him for 3 hours to calm him down, there are a few things that will help
