Will my puppy still remember me2007-11-25 2:56:38

I have a Miniature Dachshund and my boyfriend had only spent 2 days with him and since then has only seems him once every other month.

The first time my puppy saw him after 2 months had gone by (and he spent only 2 days with him). He barked like twice then got SOOO excited because he realized who it was. I'm sure your puppy will remember you when you get back.

My older dog who is 11 recoginzed my childhood nanny after 6 years.

And if she doesn't remember you, you can always rebuild the bond you had since she will still be so young.

I fostered a 2 year old puppy mill rescue chihuahua a few years ago and she built strong bonds with a lot of my family even with her social problems and being older.

Don't worry about it!

Not likely but don't fret she'll reattach herself to you quickly when you return.

By 6 months old she has pretty well bonded and gotten used to you. dogs have no ability to project the future or recall the past. So on the dayly level she may wonder where you went for about a week and then forget you. Especialy if your family gose on as usual. But when you return she will recall your smell and after a few days she will fall back into the same pattern of behaivior with you as it will feal familiar and make her and you happy. Don't worry. She will survive the seperation better than you. She will pick up where it left off. A year from now she will still be imature and enouph of a teen ager to seem like much the same dog...
