Will neutering a dog stop him from humping things2007-11-25 2:56:39

I've heard mixed things.

Answers:

Not necessarily. It may decrease the frequency. Dogs hump for dominance. I have a spayed female that humps my male dog occasionally.

Sorry no
Not really and I am not sure why but dogs that have been still do sometimes but not as much.
Yes, it should. And at least it will help him be a more healthier pet being alterd.

Good luck

My dog Spuds, would still hump things even after I got him neutered. I have to still laugh about my sisters dog Quincie who jumped up on the couch and started going after the pillow next to my uncle. You would have died if you could have seen his face! Sadly, no it won't stop him from humping things.
No, and anyone that tells you otherwise is wrong. We have had female neutered dogs who were neutered at the recommended time and still hump.

This is more about "dominance" than hormones. We've even had a parakeet that exhibited this behavior.

humping has two purposes one is sexual the other is a form of domination. So it depends on the reasons your dog is humping. Certainly any responsible dog owner should get their dog de-sexed, it does stop a lot of behavioural problems. If he is desexed and continues to hump you can probably train the dominant humping out of him. check with a trainer.
It will help the majority of dogs but there are a few that will still do it, but even those will not do it as frequently. When the neutering takes place, it does take a few months for the hormone level to drop so there is not immediate results.
it is a male thing.....even when they cant they still think they can.........
