Working while training a new pug puppy2007-11-25 2:56:58

I just recently purchased a new pug and I love her to death, but at the same time I could just ring her neck. I am trying to crate train her but since I work, I dont think it is a good idea to keep her in there all day and then also at night when I go to bed. When I put her in there at night she cries all night long and wakes me up constantly. If I let her out unattended at anytime, she is tearing up everything and peeing all over the place. (AND... she has toys to keep her busy but chooses other things over her toys) Does anyone have advice for a working pug mommy?? I need all the tips I can get.

When got Bubba at 6 weeks (pug puppy now 1 1/2) we put him on a schedule right away where I'd come home during lunch to take him out to potty, play a bit and then leave him in the crate again with a toy (like stuffed animal friend so he didn't feel so alone). We also took him out when we got home that evening and played with him or walked him around and then made sure he went potty after that and before we went to bed. Bubba cried all night as well in the crate so he wasn't in there long before he just started sleeping on the couch and his bed. In about 2 months he was fully potty trained. Oh and treats help when he goes outside along with lots of praise! You'll get through this, promise!

First, if you work all day long, then someone needs to come during the middle of the day and let her out to use the potty and get some exercise. 8-9 hours is too long in the crate during the day.
