Would you allow one of your female dogs to hump, a show of dominance, your other female dog2007-11-25 2:57:03

would you make her stop? My 4 month old springer has claimed the automan has her sleeping area in the living room. This used to be my westie's spot. I always sit in the chair, and prop my feet on the automan. My westie jumps on the automan now, and will hump the springer. The springer lets her, but does not give up the coveted spot on the automan. So, my westie will give up, and go lay by my shoes near the front door. I go in, and get her, but if I stop petting her the same scenario plays out again. I go to the obedience trainer again on thurs., but I would like to know how some of you would or have handled this. I am not a first time dog owner, however, this is my first time owning 2 dogs. Thank you in advance for answering my question.

You're going to have to let the girls work it out. You have a multi pet pack now with a couple of females. My money is on the Westie. Keep an eye on them, if they get too obnoxious, everyone can go in a crate. They aren't challenging you. Just working out second place. You are the alpha bytch. I think some of these people watch too much Cesar.

The alpha dog never interferes. They need to figure out their status in the pack themselves.

I wouldn't let her. She's being very rude. When it comes down to it, it shouldn't be about the dominance factor- she just needs to have respect for all the dogs in the household. If I catch my dogs doing that (i have a unspayed female that humps my neutred male) that she's in big trouble. I squirt her with a spray bottle and yell at her- she's submissive around people, so she's easy to break.

You're the alpha, period. No more challenges. It's your job as alpha to STOP the aggression. You need to tell the humping dog NO! and pick it up and remove it from the situation.
