Y does my dog "sing" to the piano and handphone tones2007-11-25 2:57:06

but she hates the violin, flute, and recorder n dosen respond to tv sounds? and when i pretend to bark she barks too and tink theres someone outside the door

Answers:

one theory I have read about this kind of thing is that because dogs are so strongly social, and are so driven by a need to participate and be part of the pack, that when a human does something like sing or play piano and the dog sings along, it is it's way of simply joining the family orchestra. This is in contrast to the idea that they are howling or whining in response to the sound or the activity.

the dog not responding to TV sounds seems to support that idea - the dog knows the sounds on the TV are not coming from you, her beloved owner, so she has no need to respond to it. However, when you bark at her, obviously you are trying to say something, so it's very logical (and only polite) that she would bark back. Of course she thinks there's someone at the door - that's one of the many things "Bark" means and she probably just thinks you're finally getting the hang of the dog language thing and letting her know about a visitor.

not sure about the wind instruments (maybe the different tones bother her - too high pitched - or maybe it's whose playing the flute/violin/recorder - if it's your kids or something instead of you and she's being competitive with them by challenging them instead of singing along.) That's just a guess, though. Some dogs don't like certain kind of objects that are held - i've seen them get upset by a toy gun, or a large headband, or a roll of wrapping paper - something that they might think is threatening, or shouldn't be making the sounds it's making. (For example one dog I know DESPISES this gizmo called the airzooka which makes a loud puff/thump sound.) A piano is a big, solid, non-moving thing and a flute is skinny and shiny and moves around making high pitched quick noises - totally different to the doggie.

record it n send to AFV n u might win a 10,000$ or even a 100,000$ :D
what a nice dog u have! ur dog just has her own interest. so she barks whenever she feels like.
because she's awesome
The sounds affect her ears.
certain sounds affect her hearing.

if she likes the sound she'll sing with it just like a human.

if she doesn't like the sound or is afraid of it her other senses kick in and she may bark in a lower or higher pitch.

He likes music.
