Yorkie is eating her potty papers
I have a wild wild yorkie! She's 9 weeks old, and is doing very well with her paper training, but I cannot get her to stop eating the papers! Even after she goes potty, she plays on the papers and chews em up. Any way I can get her to stop?
Also, she won't go #2 in front of me. I must've scared her at some point, and she's hiding it now.
I'm hoping to get some creative ideas on how to handle both of these problems. I'm not sure I should be firm with her about chewing the potty papers due to problem #2...
Thanks!
Answers:Are you playing with her enough? Is she teething? That may be why she's playing with the papers.
If she starts chewing, I would suggest saying, "no" and picking her up and placing her someplace else. This tells her that it's not for playing, but for other things (like peeing/pooping).
Not sure what to do about your #2 problem! As long as she goes on the paper, it should be alright?
The only way to stop eating the papers is to 1. immediately pick up after your dog has gone or 2) don't use the papers and concentrate on making sure the puppy goes outside. or 3 replace papers with a toy of hers or a rubber chew bone, that way she knows whats hers to chew and what isn't.
If you're having a problem getting the dog to poop and she's hiding it, then yes, you've punished her at one point and now she's afraid to go in front of you. Use positive reinforcement (treats) whenever you take her out as soon as she pees give a treat and praise lavishly. Then 20 minutes after eating take her out and on a leash walk her around giving her a command like Poop Poop, if she's just eaten then she's going to have to go at some point, keep her outside until she does go, when she does reward with a treat and praise her well, keep this up and she'll understand that it's ok to poop.
Never punish if she has an accident, they don't understand, only praise when she goes in the correct place.
Good luck, but fyi yorkies are very hard to housebreak so don't give up.
she's bored. play with her more and get her more toys.
give a ball or a bone to bite then always rub his head
