Yorkshire terrier
i just bought a yorkshire terrier for $1100. is this a reasonable price? Also, what are some health issuses i should know about dogs? Do they go to the vet each month? Is there a website that can tell me about dogs and what others steps should i take after buying a dog?
Answers:If your dog was from show dog/championship parents, you got a good deal. A dog from show parents usually runs 1200 and up. I own two yorkies. My youngest one comes from a multi-champion father and two time champion mom. I bought her 5 years ago for 1250 and, it is was today, it would have been a fee of 2000! It is all about the bloodline, the genetic testing, etc.
The most common issues with yorkies are collapsing tracheas, dislocating knees (luxating patellas), and hypoglycemia. Here is a list of the rest of them:

Be aware that yorkies are true terriers so they are very stubborn. Housetraining can be a real challenge due to this stubborn attitude. They are extremely smart though and extremely loving.
Once all vaccinations are complete, visits are only necessary once or twice a year (depending on your vet) for routine exams and updates on the vaccinations.
BTW, there is no such thing as a "teacup". There can be a runt of the litter which is smaller than normal but the correct term for the puppy would be "tiny" or "runt" not teacup. A legitimate breeder would never call a smaller than normal dog a teacup.
