ammonia in carpet
is there a way to get rid of the smell (pupp wee) out of the carpet ?
Answers:DO NOT use ammonia on your carpet. It will destroy it!
Also, the over-the-counter odor removal stuff is bogus. If pee has soaked the pad, then you will need to replace the pad and have the carpet cleaned by a professional with a special compound that will remove the odor permanently.
If your carpet is on a concrete floor, pull up the carpet and pad and scrub the concrete with a mix of 1 part bleach to 4 parts water. Let it dry naturally. Then replace the pad WITH A NEW SECTION OF PAD. You cannot clean the pad. You can only replace it. The good news is: pad is cheap!
If your carpet is upstairs, skip the bleach and paint the wood subfloor with a good wood sealer such as "KILLZ." (available at just about any Walmart or Home Depot)
Bottom line:
1) have the carpet professionally cleaned.
2) replace the pad
3) treat the subfloor
Good luck, and be thankful it's not cat pee! That stuff is about 10x as potent as dog pee!
no get rid of the pup or the carpet
buy carpet cleaner
Don't use ammonia ever on carpets unless you want it to smell like cat pee forever.
Lystol works very well. Use that.
Vinegar! avoid ammonia, because when it dries it smells exactly like urine! Vinegar is awesome. clean the carpet with your usual carpet cleaning formula, then after it's dry douse it with vinegar. the vinegar will evaporate, taking the ucky smell with it.
you can try vinegar or go to the pet store and get the carpet spray to remove these odors. You also might want to take your puppy out more often so he/she can get used to going outside and then give a treat for good behavior
Hi yes the vets always say do not use normal carpet cleaner as the pups or cats like it due to chemicals in it and will wee again on it.
