You should make sure you spend some time with the dog before you decide on buying it. While many dogs are supposedly "hypoallergenic," no dog is really fully hypoallergenic. It is not the fur of dogs that causes allergies, but dander. You can keep this to a minimum by bathing/grooming frequently, but there are no gaurantees that the dog will never give you allergic symptoms. The only way you can tell is by spending time with the dog. If you get symptoms, you shouldn't buy it.

Check out this website (#10 on the list.) good luck finding a pup!

poodles, shih tzus, bichons are all non-shedding dogs.
A great dane is good, they don't cause your allergies to go so a-wall
You can get any dog a shedding and hypo-allergenic treatment at a groomer to make him more tolerable to you at home. We have a golden retriever and get these treatments and suffer minimally with our allergies. Also, get a good vaccuum with a HEPA filter (like a Dyson), this helps too.
Are you allergic to fur, dander, or saliva? Greyhounds are generally somewhat low allergen. Standard poodles really aren't girly if you just get their hair cut all over.
Staffordshire bull terrier. They are amazing pets and they arent dangerous at all i have one and i know lots of people who have them. They do need quit a bit of attention though and need training early since they are very excitable when they are young. They are also very protective of people and are brilliant with children, they are nicknamed the 'nanny' dog. since they are short haired they wont affect your athsma
Get a Chihuahua, they will take the asthma and you should be ok. I have a cousin that did that and she never had any problems after getting the chihuahua.
Airedale terriers . Plus keep them out side.
Schnauzers are hypo-allergenic, so you could go with either a Standard Schnauzer or a Giant Schnauzer.
