Answers:Our six year old German shepherd was diagnosed almost two months ago with transitional cell carcinoma (bladder cancer). Since he is so young and still playful and active, we have chosen to try chemotherapy. We will only continue it if his quality of life is good, and it's having an effect on the cancer. Otherwise we will discontinue everything except meds to keep him comfortable, until we have to say goodbye.
I am so sorry about your little girl. If I were in your shoes, I would be doing the same thing. Have you asked your vet about medications for pain? There are many of them that may help. As long as she is playful and happy, I don't think it's time to let her go. When she's ready, she'll let you know.
My heart goes out to you and your family. We had to put our 16 year old dachshund to sleep the end of May, and then three months later we get this diagnosis. To say we are devastated is putting it mildly. I will keep your girl and your family in my prayers. You are not alone with his horrible disease.
Uh.sorry but.if she "grunts", she IS in pain.
Been there, done that & will have to again but.letting them go is the LAST & BEST thing you can do. Don't make an animal suffer ,OK?
I'm really sorry you'll have to go through this, your beautiful dog is suffering, hang in there, I'm sure your vet has told you what to expect and how painful it gets for your little one, have you thought about not letting him go through all that pain? Unfortunately it'll become stronger, please be realistic, though it may be hard, think he gave you many years of happiness, you need to learn to accept this reality and perhaps you need to start looking at getting another pup, I know you have a lot to sort out, but ask your vet what's the best thing, professional advice and go from there. Be strong, you'll do great. Warm wishes.
