Someone has offered me a pom, I have two small children,3 and 2. I am just kinda wondering if they are good with kids because i dont want to bring a dog in to an environment that its not gonna be comfortable in.. Thanks

Poms are usually great with kids.If they're raised around kids, they're used to them. But if it hasn't, the pom could be snippy. Like if your kids were giving it treats, and maybe teasing it a little, it might nip. But it also depends on the personality of the dog. Maybe you could visit the dog, or the dog could visit you. See what it's temperament is like.

It really depends on if the Pom has been around children before. Also depends on the dog's personality, and your childrens' reaction to the dog.

Have the children go with you to meet the dog. See how it reacts. It would be better if it was a puppy and could grow with the children. They can be nippy little buggers. If he shys away from the children when meeting them it may not be a good idea. If he is excited to see them and doesn't growl or shy away when they get close then the dog should be ok with them.

That is very hard to answer. Dogs are not like fish where some are always aggressive, others always passive. A small calm dog can snap at a child at anytime or a large hyper dog can be the sweetest dog in the world. Take the Pom home for a couple of test nights and see. Always watch your kids around it though.

If the Dog has been around children then def. But.my sister had one.he was the most sweet tempered dog ever. He never bit.or acted like he was gonna. He was wild as hell.liked to jump around and play kind of rough. But most dogs will get used to a new environment very quickly and will adjust. Dogs are smarter than you think. Don't hesitate to accept the dog. It will love you children, as long as they understand the "don't hurt the doggie, he won't hurt you" policy. ANY dog will react badly to children hurting them. If you are going to get ANY animal, you also have to prepare your children and make sure they know how to treat the animal.

we have a 4yrs old pom. She likes older children, but is not fond of younger ones. Our grandchildren don't visit often because they live in another state. I agree with others, it depends on the dog and his temperament. I think small dogs are afraid of small children and poms can be a bit snippy. Ours hates the vacuum and tries to bite it every time I sweep.
