i adopted a 1 year old Multipoo today and he is not house broken.

without purchasing a book at the store or a ebook online

can anyone direct me to a website on houstraining a dog and also teaching the basic commands that does not require a purchase.the next training class in my area does not start until november as the fall class has already started and i missed it by a few days.please help me with the basics,at elast until his new class starts next month.thanks in advance.

You don't need a class or a book, follow these tips -

- Get a small kennel for the dog. Dog's enjoy the "cave" like environment and most will not want to go potty in their cave.

- Make sure you watch the dog 100% when it is out of the cage and take it out about once a half/hour when it is out of the cage. When you are done with the dog, take it back to the cage/kennel.

- Give treats whenever the dog goes outside and verbal praise.

- Punish the dog when it goes inside, take it to the accident and rub its nose in it. I know this sounds cruel, but it works.

- If it starts going inside, immediately interupt the dog and run outside with it.

- Be consistant, don't let the dog sleep in your bed or let it run around inside without supervision.

This should work in about 3 months and you should have no problems. If you continue to do, take the dog to the vet, I have seen many dogs that have had bladder problems that the vet can take care of with medication. It seems more common in females that are spayed.

I can tell you what worked great with my dog.I put her in a room (not carpeted of course) at night."Most" dogs will not do their "business" where they sleep.Try putting him in a kennel at night or while you are away.It's easier and quicker than rubbing their noses in it.It also teaches them to "ask" to be let out to go to the bathroom.
