can I see the room that my mother would be staying in at a nurcing home
Absolutely.you are your mom's best advocate. Get all their pre-admission promises in writing (room location, care etc) so you have something to fall back on if they aren't treating her right.
Best advice- drop in all the time. Call the staff from the parking lot and tell them that you'll be there to visit on "Friday", then walk in and check on your mom to make sure she's not being negected. Things always look nicer when they know someone is coming to visit. It's best to catch them when they're not prepared.
And, I would suggest having a second facility lined up just in case the first one turns out to be bad. that way you can transfer her at a moment's notice if necessary.
Of course, You can check out the entire nursing home. If they object, go elsewhere.
Yes you may and it is a good idea to keep visiting often to make sure she is still in that room and that it is maintained to exceed a certain standard.
Best Regards
Jon
What are you talking about? You are in the pet section.
If you can not, then you don't want your mother in that particular home.
A good care facitlity will let you examine rooms, talk to other residents, see the kitchen, rec rooms and so on.
Are you talking about your mother AND her dog? You are in the PET section. And you can check out any nursing home anytime of the day or night. but think you need to check other sections.
Yes, you can take a tour of the entire facility as well. Look at the residents, see how they are being treated. Look at the meals and see how good they look, unless her diet is pureed (ground up). See how clean they keep the home. See how the staff treats the residents. You can choose the best this way.
Yes, nursing homes actually really love family involvement. They like visitors and the folks living there really like it.
Yes you can. Keep in mind a few things. As your mothers insurance changes so will her room. It has to wing designation, and billing not quality of care. Her room will be pretty bare. It's the things you bring that make it home. Bring pictures, ask to change the curtain if the roommate agrees, and anything else that makes her feel comfortable. If you want to see the exact room she will be staying in call in advance so the director of admissions has time to figure out exaclty where she will fit best. It takes time to talk to the nurses and such. They want to make sure whoever your mom is in a room with she can live with.
