can anyone tell me if there is a border collie rescue in the north or northwest of england
These were the only Border Collie rescues I could find. The ones in Sheffield or Lincolnshire are probably the closest to you.

Other than that - go to www.dogpages.org.uk. They will have details of breed-specific rescues (as above), rescues according to region. You could also put down a notice under "homes offered" on their forum. Then, if someone from a rescue finds a dog they think is right for you, they'll answer the thread you start.
