can you crop a dobermans ears at 10 months old
My breeder actually didn't like the looks of her dog's ears and redid them when the dog was 2 years old. This dog's ear had already been standing. The sooner you get them done the better.the younger the dog, the faster they heal and the cartilage is more malleable. Make sure you have them done with a vet or at least a vet's supervision. The dog's don't feel anything as they are put under anaesthetic for the procedure. The ears do heal very quickly. The only problem that you may have is getting the ears to stand. In an older pup the cartilage may have already taken shape and cannot be reshaped. Getting the ears to stand properly can take months of training with a rack. In my case I used tampons.worked great. I suggest you check with your breeder and or vet regarding your dog's cartilage and whether they think the ear could be made to stand. If it can't, let them be.
i would check with your vet, but if he is not a show dog, i wouldnt do it. it is cruel to do it just for looks.
I suggest doing a google search on cropping dobermans ears.
Then I suggest getting your head examined-that is one of the cruelest things you can do to a dog. It messes with thier hearing, it hurts and is downright cruel.
No, the ears must be cropped by the time the puppy is 11 - 12 weeks old, preferably earlier.
You may want to read this before considering it. As much as I like the looks od Dobermans with cropped ears, I couldn't have it done to one.
