My dog has a torn ligamint in his hind knee. The vet costs exceed $5k to perform surgery with no gurantees it would work. I was told to give him asprinfor pain and swelling. He is a great dog and not very old german shepard. I would like to make him feel better Thanks.

DO NOT give aspirin unless the vet tells you to and tells you the dose. Dogs metabolize aspirin different than people and need a fraction of a human the same size.

Talk to the vet about different drugs. Vets are understanding about not being able to afford medical treatment. They will give free advice over the phone about pain management, or rehab. But before giving the dog any human meds, talk to the vet first!

you should never give any animal any human medication because some ingredients can kill or make the animal very sick it is best to pay for the surgery and motrin only stops the pain it isnt a cure sorry to hear about the injury but maybe you can get the money up to have the surgery done

You can give buffered asprin at the rate of 5 mg. per/lb every 12 hrs. for pain ans swelling

I can't say for sure,but dogs do take certain human medications,but some can be toxic to your pet. Check with your vet to be on the safe side. I have heard of giving a dog Aleeve for pain,but I still would check with your vet. For pain in my dogs I give them Rimidyl or Deramax that I get from the vet. The Rimidyl is the cheaper of the two. Good luck and I hope he is relieved of his pain.

DON'T give him anything the vet doesn't prescribe! Motrin taxes the kidneys and the liver, you might really hurt him. If the vet says aspirin, then give aspirin.
