college and puppies2007-11-25 3:00:23

im in my first year of college and i moved from the east coast to north carolina for school. i dont really know anyone here so i really dont go out, and i was wondering if you think it would be good to get a dog/cat? since im alone alot and im not used to being alone and stuff. i live in an on campus appartment, so i dont think they would allow an animal live there but next year i plan on getting my own appartment (pets allowed of course).

cat or dog?

and if so which breed(s)?

i've never owned a cat but i volunteer at a couple shelters in my free time so im always around them. personally i cant tell the difference between a mixed breed cat and a purebred one! lol if i get a cat i kind of like the hairless ones. they're cute.

but any advice would be appriciated :]

thanks.

No puppy please. Puppies take a LOT of time and care, not to mention house-breaking and being taken for walks. I you MUST get a dog, get one around 1+1/2 years to 2 years from the animal shelter. It will really appreciate it, and it's probably house-broken.

A cat is easy. No walking necessary, litter training is a breeze. Much, much better for someone who will probably be moving around a lot in the next few years.

cat and dog and for the cat a calico and for the dog a lab
go for a dog cause people act really nice to them and when you do like meet someone it is less likely for them to be allergic and by the way a type of breed you should buy is a Yorkshire terrier mini ,pug, havanise, shiatsu or an pit bull
i personaly am a dog lover. but i would say go for a cat. your in your first year of college and say you dont go out much. if this changed next year and you started to go out more then a cat would be best as their more independant. you can have a cat just as a house cat and they would be fine about it. but getting a dog can be like having a kid and they need lots of attention, walks daily overall are more demanding.
Cats are much less work than dogs, they do not have to be walked 2x a day {but it is a good way to meet people} they will not chew your shoes, and possibly have an accident on your carpet. It is great and very relaxing to have a lap full of purring fur. all they demand is to be fed and a clean litter box..they do not hog the bed when you are sleeping..any cat from the shelter that suits your fancy would be the right cat for you..My favorite are the black ones..their fur is so shiny. Cats can also be left alone when you go home for the weekend. They also will not eat your homework..
Ok, a small dog, they're praticlly like a human, only hairy, lol. (I personally don't like small dogs but that's not my place to decide for you) Do you have a room mate? If so, get a cat, the best breed I reccomend is a Tabby, they're VERY well trained, and they get along finely with other people. ( I should know, I have one) Why a cat you ask? Because dogs LOVE attention, so do cats, but dogs are praticlly with you 24/7; the room mate might get annoyed, and that's NEVER good. Lol
