already have a 4 month border collie, he is not left alone very much but i have been considering getting another, if i do decide to get another i would want to get one while Alfie is still a pup so they would grow up together, but am unsure if it would be best to get same sex or not, whatever sex we get (if we get one) they would both be spayed/neutured to prevent any breeding (not experienced enough for that). I have decided to get alfie done when he is old enough anyway. any advice on which sex i should get or if alfie would be better on his own. thanks.

Hi as a breeder of Border Collies since 1983 I would say get another BC as you know that there energy is pretty vast & another dog would have to be abl to keep up with Alfie.

The sex of the animal will not matter at all if you are to have them fixed.

I have owned,trained,worked obedience,herded cattle & sheep & shown my Border Collies & my best ones have been males.

However the females are also very sweet..they don't take rubbish off the other dogs & are more likely to show the other they don't take it & will put them in there place.not fighting but to show she means business if they push their luck.

It is always better to keep 2 dogs rather than one & when it comes to BCs one will exercise the other as they run together back& forth on a walk.

You can never tire a BC out a they seem to be able to muster up energy from nowhere..having another dog helps them to burn some of that energy & helps them from being bored as being bored make them get a little destructive.training is a must & you can get so very much out of your dog from training him.
