As for worming, puppies do need to be done regularly, but older dogs are generally only done once or twice a year as a precautionary measure. Ask your vet about the most effective way to treat both dogs for both parasites.

Its extremely important that you regularly worm your puppies throughout their lifetime.

Worms in feaces are extremely contagious and can carry 'bugs' that can be extremely harmful to children if they accidently come into contact with them.

A puppy/dog with a worm burden (and they pick them up all through their lifetime really easily) will not be able to process it's food properly so you would be throwing good money away on feeding your dog to maintain weight and condition.

Get a good quality wormer from your vet, which will be more efficient than shop bought wormers. Your vet will also be able to advise properly on how often, as different areas are more susceptible to worms than others.

Regularly treating your puppy for fleas and ticks is very important. Both fleas and ticks carry diseases that can harm both your puppy but also young children. You are protecting all your family members by regular treatment.

You will also be preventing any infestation of your home.

During winter, particularly if really cold you can leave a longer gap between treatments, but it must be still be done regularly to prevent any sudden infestations.

If there are any fleas/eggs hidden away in your home (eggs can survive several years before hatching!), central heating will mean your dog is always under threat.

Again, products form your vets are more efficient and money saving in the long term, than shop bought products.

16 week old puppy will need a different worming regime than your older dog, so seek vet advice on this.
