food for a (teacup) chihuahua2007-11-25 3:01:02

I just bought a cute (teacup) Chi. 6 months ols. He is still teething. He is barely eating. Dry food is not an option. None what so over. He just sniffs it that's all. He is ok with can food. I do not want him to get used to them though.

1- Bad breath

2- Bad for their health

Any suggestions for a brand of food that's mushy or easy to chew on?

Get a GOOD NATIONAL BRAND dog food.i.e., Science diet, Eukaneuba, Iams, Purina. DRY! Forget the canned stuff. You are right about the bad problems with teeth, and with small dogs, you don't need any help, they get bad in a hurry on their own. If he gets hungry enough, he will eat it! If it's to hard, let is soak in a little bit of water to soften it up. But if you get him started on the canned, he will hold out for the good stuff and make it somewhat hard on you.he'll give you that pitifull look. But put only the dry stuff out, and see what he does.dogs can go a while with out eating, he gets hungry enough he'll eat.I PROMISE!
You need to feed him whatever he was eating before you got him. Don't change his food all at once. If your chihuahua doesn't eat regularly, he could die from hypoglycemia, low blood sugar. How much does he weigh? He really does need to be on dry food, but like I said, don't change it all at once if he is eating the soft. You should get some nutrical from your vet or pet store and give him some a couple of times a day to help keep sugar levels up.
You can take any dry puppy food & put hot water on it to soften it up. Check with your vet to rule out any problems as to why he's not eating. Use less hot water as his appetite improves. Dry is healthier & better for teeth, not to mention more convenient & less stinky! I'm curious why dry food is not an option? Good luck!
