Ok fellow fish people =) I have a 29 gallon aquarium that I enjoy alot.

So a friend bought me a 10 gallon aquarium for my home office,however,I am lost as to what type of freshwater tropical might realistically be happy in a 10 gallon,and how many?

I set up the aquarium Wednesday,and the filter and heater have been running since then.I believe it would be ok this weekend to get a fish or 2.

So any suggestions on what type of fish would be happy in a 10 gallon?and how many of said fish?

Just a little help , if you have a 29gal that has been up and runing for awhile that is in good shape you can cut a small peace of the filter pad and put it in your new 10gal to seed the filter.

this will speed up your cycle.

I would get 6 or 8 neon tetras. they wont mess up the tank too much and are pretty and colourful, don't over crowd your tank though otherwise you will get ammonia problems and dead fish!!

unless you want to cycle your tank with fish then you could get yourself a couple of zebra danios, they are very hardy

Even after the cycling is done, you should never introduce more then 5 fish at a time, with at least a week apart

I would let your tank fully cycle first without the use of fish. There are ways to do a fishless cycle such as adding ammonia to the tank to make it spike without having to risk the lives of any fish. It is the most humane way to go about this process. You can instead add some fish food to the tank that will proceed to rot and create ammonia, nitrites, and finally nitrates. When your ammonia and nitrites are at zero and you have some nitrates, then you are ready to add fish. This can take a few weeks.
