i want to buy a 50 gallon tank (maybe a stand also) and stock it with marine fish, sand, and live rock. how much do you think this would cost? also, would silver dollars and angelfish be peacefull with a rather large pleco? (algae eater)

I would imagine it would be pretty pricey depending on where you buy the tank, including all the accessories, fish ,sand, filter, heater, stand, live rock etc. and I would guess around $300-$500 big ones. If your looking for a deal visit craigslist.com and search for aquariums around your area but make sure you inspect the tank for cracks.

If your doing live rock, you can easily spend $500 on the rock alone. The tank itself is another hundred. Everything else depends on the quality you want. You can spend $150 on a canister filter or $50 on a bio wheel. The fish can cost a few dollars to a few hunderd.

I'd have to say expect to spend closer to $1000, and you may even go over a bit.

On the cheap side, I'd say the tank and stand will run a minimum of 200.-250.00(brand new). And, that's not including filters, heaters, etc. The price of marine fish, that just depends on what you decide to get. I've seen them priced anywhere from 10.00-100.00. Live rock, again depends on where you live. I would say to start up a salt water tank, will run you an additional 200.-300.00 on top of the tank and stand, and that's probably a minimum figure.
