Adding another filter

Adding another filter2007-11-24 23:09:27

ive always been told that the more filtration, the better for your fish, so for my 29 gallon tank, i want to add an additional filter.

its been cycled and running for a few months or so and have to change out about 5 gallons every 3 weeks or so. it has an aqua tech 20-40 HOB filter currently, and i want to add in another of the same filters.

will it hurt my fish?

i have 7 african ciclids all about 2.5-3 inches with one big one about 4 inches

Answers:

No it will not hurt your fishes, adding another filter in your case is a rather good idea.

Your tank is slightly on the higher stocked side especially if the fishes starts to grow, and I personally feels that your water change routine needs to be looked into as it currently insufficient IMHO.

The filter you want now would be one that can help you perform mechanical filtration and help you keep those solid waste out of the system easily.

A HOB filter might not be the best option as it's mechanical and biological capacity is limited. That said, having two HOB filter is still better then having only one :) so go ahead, but look into other option if they're available.

It shouldn't hurt the fish. It will probably be better for them.
