well one of my bettas is small and i got at PETCO and the other i got in T.J but i think she's afraid of him and he's pretty big compared to her. like a crayola crayon compared to a pen. SHould i get a smaller male? or should i wait? Help.

Hon, don't try breeding bettas before you know how! Seperate them first, then read through these sites:

http://www.aquarticles.com/articles/bree...

http://bettysplendens.com/articles/page.

I also strongly suggest getting books from your library and talking to petstore workers (As long as they actually know about fish, some workers don't know anything about them.)

I hope I was helpful! Good luck with your fishies!

Betta breeding requires a large bank of tanks, a LOT of work, and you can't just put two together and expect babies! It takes a 150 page book to explain all the ins and outs of betta breedeing, but the most important thing for you to do is get tehm seperated RIGHT NOW! They will kill each other! Then get a book on breeding bettas and other labyrintine fish. There just isn't enough space here to teach you how.
Females are usually sold earlier/younger than the males (sometimes 4-5 weeks), since they don't need to develp the finnage and color of the males. So there is no need to get another female, just feed her well for a few weeks and make sure that she is sexually matured and ready before attempting to breed them. You can tell if she is ready when she is well rounded and supports vertical lines and have the "egg spot" between the ventral and anal fin. Also when placed in view of the male, her color intensifies and flares back at the male, she is then ready.
