Black Moor Goldfish has large lump/growth on back near top fin, what could it be2007-11-24 23:10:18

I am positive that isn't nodular disease as the lump involve with nodular disease doesn't look anything like in the movie.

Brent, if you look at the image attached below, I have attached image of a few goldfish species that have a special feature, they have extra hanging flesh that is part of their wen on their head. Some goldfish are breed for this traits.

Unfortunately mutation in goldfish is common, (ask any person that seriously breeds goldfish) and yours have a growth where it shouldn't be. The only strange thing is that the fault kicks in only when the goldfish is already this big, normally bad traits are evident even when they are very small.

Certainly looks like a very large cyst. This could be nodular disease which can be caused by parasites. There is a possibility that this is very infectious so isolating a fish is a good idea. According to my fish health book, there is normally no reliable treatment for these type of diseases. If the condition gets very bad, euthanasia is normally the only option. um i had a fish and it had that same thing um make shure 2 clean the tank out often and also if u use soap make shure 2 rinse it out really really well
