The first thing to do, is set the tank up like you are ready to add fish to it, and let it run for at least a week, I even when setting up a new tank add food to it everyday, the tank has to cycle or the ammonia spike that will occur will kill your fish, get a water test kit, and test everyday and watch your levels, you'll see the spike and then it will level out, then it will be safer to add fish..As far as what kind, that depends,. do you want a community tank with a variety of fish, if so stay away from anything aggressive, most pet store employees can steer you in the right direction>
