How can I tell if the female is carrying eggs and is ready to mate?

Answers:

You can tell when a female bettas is carrying eggs if she is well rounded, supports vertical stripes and has a white "egg spot" on her abdomen between the ventral and anals fins. You can also tell if she is ready to breed by placing her beside a male (in separate containers) and if she responds to the male by flaring back at the male and her colors intensifies then she is ready.

you shouldnt need to.. just stick a male & female together... & eventually they will breed sucessfully

if you put a male and female together the male will fight the female a little usually but thats ok thats supposed to happen but then after a day or so remove the male from the female and then the female will lay her eggs!
Check out www.bettatalk.com all the info you need is there. Prepare before the spawn, takes alot of time. Good Luck!! ><>:)~
Female bettas will get a dark horizontal line from tip to tip when ready to mate. If you put a male in with her that is not ready (or mature enough) to mate when she is, she will kill him! you can put her in with a mature male anytime she shows this horizontal line. It may take a few days for her to warm up but as long as she can hide from him until she is ready, they will be fine. So interesting to watch them breed!
place PLENTY of hiding places in the tank so the female can hide. Once the male starts making a nest, introduce femalle. Raise water temp to around78 degreess, Within a day you should be able to see the eggs being laid. Give it a day and take the female out (I normally remove a car or something where she is hiding). Trust me, I breed betas constantly for sale.
