It is difficult at best, and almost impossible for the most part, to sex goldfish. The best way, if they are breeding is to look for tubercles on the male which appear as white bumps, like pimples, on their gills and fins. Also, the female's anal vent will extend and become convex (still difficult to actually really "see") and she is fatter around than the male because of the eggs. These actions are one of the behaviors of breeding goldfish, but this behavior alone does not signal actual breeding, and even if eggs are laid, there still needs to be successful insemination and actual hatching, which only happens in the most successful environments. Plus, goldfish are very social animals. Part of their daily interaction is to swim closely together everywhere and bump and nuzzle and rub. It almost appears as if they need each other in an emotional sort of way. I have had goldfish off and on for almost 20 years and have only once had eggs lain and then they never hatched. Two males, in lack of a female, will also display breeding behavior with each other. So, it's hard to say if you will see actual hatching eggs as a result of this behavior, but it could happen. There is much involved in taking care of goldfish and even more in fry. So, read up on it in the event that you do have young'uns.

Yes it does sound like there getting redy to breed, Goldfish dont usualy breed untill there about 2-3 years old and are about 2-4 inch in lenght. I wish you good luck with your baby goldfish and i hope you raise them to adult hood. Good luck!
