Bubble-Eye Goldfish has Red Filled Cheek2007-11-24 23:10:23

I have been keeping bubble-eye goldfish for a very long time now. My biggest one whome I have had for many years now often gets a reoccuring infection where one of his cheeks turns red, as if it is filled with blood. In the past I have treated him with Amoxicillin, which has always worked. However this time it isn't. I'm not sure what to do, I am also not sure what could be causing this. I have pictures if needed. Any information would be greatly appreciated! Please no insensitive remarks.

I think it's time to get advice from a vet. I know that may sound silly, but it could really help in the end. I'm guessing that the treatment you've been giving your fish stopped working because the bacteria causing the infection may have become immune to it. I would definitely suggest professional help!

Well, as you know your goldfish breeds and have managed to keep them alive for a long time, I have to say that you know what you're doing, but still, the first thing anyone has to ask is what are your water readings at? We know that poor water quality is the first reason that fish exhibit distress, wounds, sickness. Anyway, just had to mention it. But, I have to say this is probably the deal. Bubble eyes are just out there for the world to grab, snag, bump, scrape, tear, puncture and every other related verb. He's probably just hurting it on things. So, just like a clumsy little kid whom you can be assured will have a permanently scraped knee every single summer, you may just have to accept that your little goldy is going to injure his bubble eyes from time to time and you get to be the one who fixes his boo-boos. But, maybe this time it's just a much worse boo-boos. Putting up a picture always helps! But, definitely, good luck!
