So there you have it!
check out the link below for more information on breeding bettas.
I believe that means the male is ready.
Breeding bettas is a lot of work. For you and the fish. It's also very expensive. It sounds like your bettas are common pet store bettas (most likely veil tails or crowntails). In order to breed you would need a suitable spawning tank (5-10 gallons) that is bare except for a submersible heater and corner or sponge filter. The temp would need to be between 82 and 86 degrees. You could very well end up with several hundred babies and they would each need to have individual jars. Or at least jars for the males (still over a hundred). You'd also need to make sure that before they breed you have homes lined up for the hundreds of babies you'll have. If you have quality bettas from quality lines that won't be too terribly hard, but common bettas can be bought just about everywhere for next to nothing. You aren't ready. Your fish aren't suitable to breed. Just enjoy them as they are.
Males are always making nest, so don't worry this time. If you or anyone you know has a baby that is eating baby food, save the jars and then run them through the dish washer. Use those until they are bigger. Most wont survive any way and then you are not out all that money buying tanks that you wont need.
